[Music] hey my name is Jeffrey started working on this I got here July 3rd and here we are just a couple months and a half later its already to this stage so its exciting to have seen it come together this far this is really a fusion of style its actually a different style of log-home than metal our fusion typically builds but we wanted we had a particular floor plan that we wanted to go from of a pretty modern home and we wanted to fuse that with the the style and capacity of metal arc to play a role in bringing it together so here we have a three-sided flat flat walled home some of the interior is going to have drywall right against the the exterior walls but and of course all the interior walls will be frame and drywall so you can see as you come close to this wall we got lodgepole Pines some larch also blended in here and the flat on the inside and round on the outside and then the structural integrity of the product really is about being built flat on flat and flat on flat fla

Most log home manufacturers use plywood or wood splines, lag bolts, screws, spiral spikes, and sealants to connect the ends of two logs together. The problem with those connections is that they are susceptible to air infiltration, log wall separation, structural stability concerns.
The logs are held together using rebar, which they are hammered through, and then nailed from one log to the next. The rebar is used as a center point for all of the logs to be stacked into.
Caulking is more elastic than chinking and has no texture or very light texture; while chinking comes in various colors or textures. Due to higher elasticity caulking is a great option for using it in smaller joints (i.e. to 2 wide).
The cons? Log homes require more maintenance than other types of houses - though not as much as many people would imagine. The most important thing to keep in mind is that logs deteriorate over time without care and maintenance. Therefore, you will have to clean, re-stain and re-caulk your log home from time to time.

The rule of thumb is if the gap between log courses is of an inch or less, you should use caulk. If it is larger than of an inch, you should use chink. These products are designed to withstand the movement of your log home in these applications. Grip Strip backer rod should be used to fill the larger openings.
The two methods that are primarily used to repair gaping log walls are chink and caulk. Caulk is typically used when the gap is of an inch and chink is used when the gaps are larger.
Typically, if the span or depth between the logs is less than 1 inch then caulking should be used. Caulking can also be used to fill checks (i.e. horizontal cracks) in logs too. If the span or depth between the logs is greater than 1 inch then its time to use chinking.
Whether a home needs chinking depends on the log profile or building system you choose. It is required between log courses on homes that are designed with a horizontal gap between the logs. Chinking is clearly visible on the surface of the log walls and is both decorative and functional.
The average lifespan of chinking in log cabins depends upon your efforts. If installed correctly and with minimal maintenance to replace any tears, it can last for almost 20 to 40 years. Annual maintenance and the right application of the chinking material matter the most when it comes to how long does chinking last.
