Users expect the language selector to be located in the header or the footer of each page, and they often watch out for flags, “Globe” or “Translate” icons to find it. If you have just a few languages, a drop-down overlay might be perfectly enough.
Adding language switcher to your WordPress navigation menu Simply go to the Appearance » Menus page and click on the 'Language Switcher' tab in the left column. Now select the languages you want to display and then click on add to menu button. You will now see languages added to your WordPress navigation menu.
Start by making sure your site meets WPML's minimum requirements. Then, the main WPML components: WPML Multilingual CMS (the core plugin) String Translation....Follow the wizard to: Choose your site's languages. Choose your URL format. Register WPML. Choose your translation mode (see the next section for more details)
Choose Your Language Switcher. There are three options for adding a language switcher to your site: Shortcode – You can add the shortcode [language-switcher] to display a language switcher on any page or widget. Menu item – Go to Appearance → Menus to add languages to your navigation.
To translate individual pages, posts, or other content, select Translate Some in the setup wizard or in WPML → Settings. When you or one of your site's translators opens a translation job in the Advanced Translation Editor, simply click the blue Translate Automatically button at the top of the page.
Below are the steps to change the default language. Go to WPML > Language > Site Languages. Click on "Change Default Language" button and Switch to "Spanish" Go to WP > Settings > Permalinks > Resave Permalinks.
Log in to your site. In the WordPress admin, go to the Plugins → Add New and click Upload Plugin. Select the ZIP file that you downloaded from your account and click Now.
With Polylang Pro the language switcher is available as a block in the Full Site Editing. To add it, simply click the “+” button to add a block and search for the language switcher. Typing the first few letters should suffice to bring it up.
