The business model canvas is a tool designers use to map out a business or products key actors, activities and resources, the value proposition for target customers, customer relationships, channels involved and financial matters. It gives an overview to help identify requirements to deliver the service and more.
A key partner can simply be defined as any entity a business needs to rely on to achieve its value proposition. In the Business Model Canvas, the Key Partners section lists external companies, suppliers, or parties an organization does business with to perform key activities and deliver customer value.
These key partnerships can be categorized in four different areas: Strategic alliances between non-competitors. Strategic partnerships between competitors (referred to as coopetition) Joint ventures to develop new business. Buyer-supplier relationships to assure reliable supplies.
The Business Model Canvas consists of nine essential parts: Customer Segments, Value Proposition, Revenue Streams, Channels, Customer Relationships, Key Activities, Key Resources, Key Partners, and Cost Structure.
These are tangible resources. For example, equipment, buildings, machines, transportation or distribution networks. Dells distribution network was a Key Resource, enabling them to deliver PCs at home years before others did the same. One example of key resources in the business model canvas is Tesla.
A partner can allow your company to experiment with a market for growth or change of direction without your company needing to invest money and resources. Multiple partners that provide similar products, services, or materials can help reduce the uncertainty of something not being available.
Key partners are the external relationships engaged to create customer value. They can take a number of forms such as supplier or broker relationships, joint ventures, franchises or strategic alliances.
Key partners are the companies or people your business works with to create a strategic relationship. A few examples of key partners are suppliers or distribution partners in the supply chain.
