Use the complete formal name and address (abbreviations like Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr. or Jr. are fine to use) it the invitation is formal. First and last names are fine for casual parties. If there are children under 18, add their first names below and indented to their parents names.
Most parents send out 1st birthday party invitations at least four weeks before the event, which is the perfect amount of timenot too late, and not so early that people will forget about the festivities. (Of course, when you use Paperless Post, you can send scheduled reminders to guests as the party date approaches.)
As a basic rule you will need to include the following details: Your childs name. Your childs age. The time and place of the birthday party. The theme of the birthday party. Your RSVP details. The RSVP deadline.
Your invitation should be clear and include the name of the child being invited, the name of the child whose party it is, and the venue, date and time of the event.
You could email them invitations. (Or make a phone call.) Ask them to rsvp and give you their address in the reply. Mail pretty keepsake invitations to those who say yes and give your their information. In every family there is always ONE person that knows everybodys address and phone number.
Only the party details, reason for the party (like a birthday, anniversary), date, time, location, host and rsvp info belong on the invitation. Do not include directions, accommodations or where youre registered. Those details, if you must include them, should be on a separate insert card.
WHEN TO MAIL: A general rule of thumb is to mail wedding or formal event invitations 6-8 weeks in advance. Casual invitations for kids, simple birthday party, casual dinner party, can be mailed 2-3 weeks ahead of the party date.
For casual birthday parties held at someones home, plan to send birthday party invitations 24 weeks before the event. If youre throwing a bigger birthday party or a party at a venue that requires a headcount, aim for 45 weeks before the event. Add an RSVP by date 2 weeks before the event, as well.
