gday there groovers and this video here just wanted to talk a little about file compression and file size and different formats to use but really specifically just wanted to talk about photo the photoshop format the dot psd file or tiff files and in the past id previously saved all my images using the dot psd extension and i dont do that anymore i stick just with tiff file now and theres a couple of good reasons for that one is file size and it just completely reduces the amount of size thats required on your hard drives and when youre working with a lot of images and using lots of layers and stuff like that if you can save half the file size so if youre working on a 100 meg image which would which it would be as a dot psd file and you can get that down to 50 meg or 55 meg its better my way of thinking is its better to have that 50 meg free on your hard drive and youre not sacrificing any of the quality either so i did a couple of tests just to show you exactly what im talki

TIFF FILE FORMAT TIFF files are docHubly larger than their JPEG counterparts, and can be either uncompressed or compressed using lossless compression.
TIFF is uncompressed. Since TIFF does not use any compression algorithms like JPEG or GIF formats, the file contains more data and results in a more detailed picture.
You do, however, have some options for making them smaller by using compression. When it comes to TIFF, two main compression options are availabletheyre known as LZW or ZIP. Both ZIP and LZW are lossless compression methods. That means that no data is being lost in the compression, unlike a lossy format like JPG.
How to compress TIF/TIFF files in four simple steps the NXPowerLite Desktop TIFF compressor software. Drag your TIFF file onto the NXPowerLite icon. Hit the Optimize button to reduce file size. NXPowerLite will compress and deliver you a smaller image.
Both of these are lossless compression options, meaning image quality will not be degraded. The ZIP compression option will generally provide file sizes that are smaller than those with LZW compression, especially for 16-bit per channel images.
ZIP compression. LZW and ZIP are both lossless compression methods, meaning no data is lost after compression. TIFF files retain their quality after being compressed into smaller files using either LZW or ZIP.

Disadvantages of TIFF files. They can take up valuable space on your drive. Their size makes them difficult to share or send to contacts or clients. Their high quality makes them a poor choice for website design, since detailed images can slow a websites loading speed.
