Raw has more options for correcting exposure issues With a JPEG, white balance is applied by the camera, and there are fewer options to modify it in post-processing. With a raw file, you have complete control over white balance when editing the image. Lost detail in overexposed highlights cannot be recovered in a JPEG.
RAW provides far more image information, allowing you to capture more detail and greater dynamic range from your camera sensor. 2. More flexibility for editing: When you transfer images from your cameras SD card to a hard drive for editing, you will appreciate the image quality you get from RAW data.
The RAW format is ideal if you are shooting with the intent of editing the images later. Shots where you are trying to capture a lot of detail or color, and images where you want to tweak light and shadow, should be shot in RAW.
Additionally, shooting in RAW doesnt just make for better edits; it makes for better quality images overall - especially when being blown up to bigger sizes for printing custom wall art. Since the camera does not process the photos, the end result is photos that appear more life-like and realistic.
So why does nearly everyone recommend shooting RAW then? Because they are simply superior files. Whereas JPEGs discard data in order to create a smaller file size, RAW files preserve all of that data. That means you keep all the color data, and you preserve everything you can in the way of highlight and shadow detail.
8 Crucial Steps to Prepare Images for Printing #1 Calibrate the monitor. When did you last calibrate your monitor? #2 Save your print file in sRGB or docHub RGB. #3 Save images as 8-bit. #4 Choose the correct dpi. #5 Resize your images. #6 Crop the images. #7 Sharpen the image. #8 Soft proofing.

RAW files contain uncompressed and unprocessed image data, allowing photographers to capture practically every detail they see in their viewfinder. The RAW file format stores the largest amount of detail out of any raster file type, which photographers can then edit, compress, and convert into other formats.
