Once a vaccine is administered, the antigens in the vaccine must be recognized, responded to, and remembered by your pups immune system. Full protection from a vaccine usually takes up to twenty-one days.
You can wait between three to five weeks between each set of vaccines. Your puppys immune system is not strong enough to have antibodies that last more than six weeks between vaccines. Youll need to have your puppy get a booster, which is an extra set of vaccines to catch him or her up.
Acceptable Proof of Vaccinations All proof that your pup has been vaccinated must come in the form of a copy of a medical record, invoice, veterinarian statement, rabies certificate, or receipt provided by the owner or sent to our facility from the dogs veterinarian.
In general, a puppy should start vaccines as soon as you get the puppy (this is usually between 6 and 8 weeks) and then every two weeks until approximately four months of age when it will receive the final round.
If a puppy is over the age of 16 weeks when their vaccines are started, they should receive two of the Distemper/Parvo/ Lepto combo vaccines a minimum of two weeks apart, and one Rabies vaccine.
Parvo Prevention Vaccines for the parvovirus are recommended for all puppies and are usually given in a series of three shots when the pup is between 6-to-8 weeks old, again at 10-to-12 weeks, and at 14-to-16 weeks. A booster shot is administered one year later and every 3 years after that.
A good dog shot record should contain information about the immunization. This includes the vaccine name, date it was given, when to follow up, and the veterinarians name. This well-constructed dog shot record template can be used by the animal clinic, veterinarian or the pet owner.
Even in places that seem safe, viruses like Parvovirus can live in the soil for up to a year and are resistant to weather and temperature fluctuations. It just isnt worth it to take the chance which is why vets recommend waiting the full week after vaccination before taking your pup out in public.
Parvovirus vaccines (typically in a combo of vaccines) start between 6 and 8 weeks and need to be boostered every 3-4 weeks (DONT WAIT MORE THAN 4 OR YOU HAVE TO RESTART) until they are 16 weeks when antibodies from mom have faded.
