What is Diet Adaptation? A diet adaptation is when a person changes their diet. This includes modifying the diet because of a medical condition or in preparation for a procedure or surgery. This is most often necessary for certain medical procedures.
A therapeutic diet is usually a modification of a regular diet. It is modified or tailored to fit the nutrition needs of a particular person. Therapeutic diets are modified for (1) nutrients, (2) texture, and/or (3) food allergies or food intolerances.
To meet your bodys regular nutritional needs, you should consume: a wide variety of nutritious foods. water on a daily basis. enough kilojoules for energy, with carbohydrates as the preferred source. essential fatty acids from foods such as oily fish, nuts, avocado. adequate protein for cell maintenance and repair.
Therapeutic nutrition is the therapeutic adaptation of the normal diet. Diet therapy is the use of food as an agent in effecting recovery from illness. It is concerned with the nutrition of all patients, those receiving normal diets as well as those for whom modified diets have been prescribed.
Decreasing the amount of coffee and tea consumed with meals containing iron-rich foods is another example of dietary modification, because coffee and tea inhibit iron absorption.
What are the common special dietary requirements? Food allergies and intolerances such as dairy free, fish and shellfish allergies, nut free and gluten free. Special dietary requirements vegetarian, vegans and pregnancy. Religious reasons halal.
On average, women should have around 2,000 calories a day (8,400 kilojoules) and men should have around 2,500 calories a day (10,500 kilojoules). We all need different amounts of energy (or calories) from food to be a healthy weight.
A healthy diet includes the following: Fruit, vegetables, legumes (e.g. lentils and beans), nuts and whole grains (e.g. unprocessed maize, millet, oats, wheat and brown rice). At least 400 g (i.e. five portions) of fruit and vegetables per day (2), excluding potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava and other starchy roots.
The regular diet can also be referred to as a general or normal diet. Its purpose is to provide a well-balanced diet and ensure that individuals who do not require dietary modifications receive adequate nutrition.
