[Music] todays lesson was a third grade lesson for module 1 we engaged in the close read lesson using the text waiting for a biblio burro only book differentiation is really important to the students in my class so as a critical thinker Im compelled to adjust the lessons to meet the needs of my students some ways I differentiate in the classroom are chunking text adding sentence starters to support students with their writing all students bring a different level of readiness to the tasks that they have to complete so when Im preparing to teach a lesson I consider three things one the data of my students to my menu of options for differentiation and three the structure of the lesson plan I have at hand and then I take those three components and reads them together to design a differentiated lesson first target says I can when I start the whole group lesson I start by unpacking the learning targets with students reading the learning target aloud and making sure the students are clear

Adapted Text is any text that has been changed from its original print format. This includes a variety of strategies to make traditional text accessible to students with a variety of learning styles.
Text book adaptation refers to changes the teacher made to the book to make it more suitable to a particular class. Changes could include adding or dropping activities, changing activities, replacing topics or content etc. For further information see my book Key Issues in Language Teaching.
The main purpose of adaptation is to eliminate complex language that might prevent students from understanding the main concept of the text. It also plays an important role to motivate learners for reading.
These forms of adaptation include modifying content, adding or deleting content, reorganizing content, addressing omissions, modifying tasks, and extending tasks. As for modifying content and modifying tasks, teachers only change the content of the material and the organization of activities.
An adaptation can also be behavioral, affecting the way an organism responds to its environment. An example of a structural adaptation is the way some plants have adapted to life in dry, hot deserts. Plants called succulents have adapted to this climate by storing water in their short, thick stems and leaves.
Adapted books are books that have been modified to make reading accessible to individuals with disabilities.
Adapted texts are texts that have the same content but are at different reading levels. Using adapted texts helps English learners continue to learn content while they are learning English. Many teachers create their own adapted texts, which allows them to control the vocabulary that is embedded.
The practice of text adaptation involves a teachers modification of texts to make them more understandable, given a students reading level. Teacher adaptations include text summaries, vocabulary support (e.g., providing synonyms), and translation.
For example, William Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet was adapted from written text into many films and was also adapted into a musical called West Side Story. In West Side Story the theme of star crossd lovers is explored within a different social context and in the medium of physical performance.
ə-ˈdapt. : to make or become suitable. especially : to change so as to fit a new or specific use or situation. adapt to life in a new school. adapt the novel for children.
