Ive written a letter that has several paragraphs, and to make each paragraph stand out just a little more, I want to add a first line indent. Before you add an indent, you may want to go to the View tab and make sure the Ruler is displayed, since it makes it easier to customize your indents. To create a first line indent, you can just place the insertion point at the beginning of a paragraph and then press the Tab key. You may have noticed that when I did this, this little marker on the Ruler moved forward 1/2 inch. This is the First Line Indent marker. Theres also the Hanging Indent marker, the Left Indent marker just below that, and the Right Indent marker. We can move them to create various types of indents. They dont affect the whole document, just the parts that are selected, so lets select all of these paragraphs. Now, drag the First Line Indent marker. We can also create a Hanging Indent, which moves all of the lines except the first line. The Left Indent will move all of th

To start a paragraph without an indent, or to continue an interrupted paragraph, use \noindent . In the middle of a paragraph the \noindent command has no effect, because LaTeX is already in horizontal mode there. The \indent commands only effect is to output a space. This example starts a fresh paragraph.
\hspace{1cm} Inserts a horizontal space whose length is 1cm. Other LaTeX units can be used with this command. Inserts a blank space that will stretch ingly to fill the space available.
To indent subsequent lines of a paragraph, use the TeX command \hangindent . (While the default behaviour is to apply the hanging indent after the first line, this may be changed with the \hangafter command.) An example follows. \hangindent=0.7cm This paragraph has an extra indentation at the left.

Basic shapes. One of the simplest and most commonly used commands in TikZ is the \draw command. To draw a straight line we use this command, then we enter a starting co-ordinate, followed by two dashes before the ending co-ordinate. We then finish the statement by closing it with a semicolon.
Reason: the standard line skip means a factor of 1.2 (such as font height 10pt, base line skip 12pt). Multiply with \linespread , so you get 1.25*1.2 = 1.5, so one-half. You can compare a printed page with a printed Microsoft Word page, or compare on screen.
\indent : the effect of this command depends where it is used: in a horizontal mode (inside a paragraph or an \hbox ) or math mode it inserts a space (an empty box) of width \parindent. in a vertical mode (between paragraphs or in a \vbox ) it triggers the start a new indented paragraph.
Tab stops are set with the \= command, and \ moves to the next tab stop. Lines are separted by the \ \ command.
