When faced with bright headlights coming at you on the road, remember to look down and to the right. It is recommended to follow the white traffic line on the right hand side of the road to avoid direct headlight glare in your eyes.
If you feel you wont be able to see after a vehicle approaching you has passed, slow down and try not to look directly at those headlights. If blinded by oncoming headlights while driving at night, look to the right side of the road. You will be able to see other vehicles with your peripheral vision.
The author asks, Why are these still legal? The answer is that LED headlights never have been legal. As we can see in the video, LED headlights are hazardous, dangerous, and discriminatory, and they have never been approved by the U.S. government.
In the past two decades, vehicle headlights have shifted from primarily warm-yellowish halogen to cool-bluish LED, which human eyes are more sensitive to. New vehicles are increasingly taller, making oncoming headlights more likely to be eye-level for drivers in small cars.
Put simply, HID (and more specifically LED) headlights emit far more blue light than halogen lights. The problem with LED headlights is that they are incompatible with dark adapted human eyesight, wrote John Lincoln for the England-based advocacy group Lightaware.
This might seem obvious, but its worth saying: Just as you dont look directly at the sun, dont look directly at oncoming high beams. Not only will that blind you in the moment, it can cause lingering night blindness for a short time after the car has passed as your eyes struggle to adjust to changing conditions.
The glare from headlights causes accidents, and the problem is getting worse as bulbs get brighter. One way to cut out glare is with a polarising filter that only lets light through that travels in a single direction, cutting out all the other light waves wiggling in random directions.
Filed in California federal court, the lawsuit accuses the FDA of failing to fulfill its Congressional mandate to regulate electromagnetic radiation from electronic products, including a wide array of LED-based items including streetlights, general service lamps and vehicle headlights.
