An indexed image consists of two parts: the indices and the palatte. The palatte keeps track of all possible pixel values of an image, while the indices consists of the palatte index of each pixel.
Indexed Images An indexed image consists of an image matrix and a colormap. A colormap is a c-by-3 matrix of data type double with values in the range [0, 1]. Each row of the colormap specifies the red, green, and blue components of a single color.
An indexed image uses direct mapping of pixel values to colormap values. The color of each image pixel is determined by using the corresponding value of X as an index into map .
