hey everyone Alex from OBrien here. In this video I want to go over the encode abutments from Zimmer biomet. Encode abutments are a type of healing abutment that have markings or codes on the top that make it possible to use them in place of an impression coping or scan body. These abutments were initially just for the 3i Certain and external hex implants but just recently Zimmer Biomet announced that they are now available for the Zimmer TSV implants as well. One of the biggest advantages of the Encode abutment is that once they are placed they dont need to be removed for the impression which saves time and helps to preserve the tissue. The impression is taken directly over the encode abutment and can be done traditionally or with an intraoral scanner. If you use an intraoral scanner the lab will import the STL file directly into the design software and if you take a traditional impression the impression will be scanned by the lab to create a digital file. The lab then uses the code

Rigid impression materials include plaster and compo/zinc oxide-eugenol; however, since they cannot engage the undercuts, their application is limited nowadays. Elastic impression materials can be further divided into hydrocolloid and elastomeric impression.
An ideal impression material should also demonstrate excellent detail reproduction, good tear strength, and no distortion when removed from the mouth. It must be biocompatible, non-toxic and have an acceptable odor and taste. Desirable features also include long working time, short setting time, and a long shelf life.
Impressions can also be described as mucostatic or mucocompressive, being defined both by the impression material used and the type of impression tray used (i.e. spaced or closely adapted). Mucostatic means that the impression is taken with the mucosa in its normal resting position.
Two types of impression compounds are available - Type 1 which is low fusing with a fusion temperature of approximately. Above 45C and Type 2 which is high fusing with a fusion temperature of approximately above 70C. It is manipulated in a temperature controlled water bath or air bath or open flame.
➢ Impression compounds exhibit fusion temperature. ➢ The temperature at which the material loses its hardness or brittleness on heating or forms a rigid mass upon cooling is referred to as fusion temperature. ➢ At or above 43.5C, the material softens and flows to a plastic mass which can easily be manipulated.
Type I: Flow not more than 3% at 37C (Mouth temperature). Flow not less than 80% and not more than 85% at 45C.
Impression compound is a thermoplastic material with a glass transition temperature of about 5560C. Above its glass transition temperature it becomes soft and will take up a new form. On cooling to mouth temperature, it hardens and can be removed, retaining an impression of the oral cavity.
Fusion temperature: The impression compound docHubes the fusion temperature at 43.5 degrees Celcius. Above this temperature, the impression compound remains plastic and can be utilized.
