The most basic way to set a full-page background is to use the CSS background-image property. This property accepts a value that is the URL of the image you want to use as the background. This will set the body element as the container for the background image, which will cover the entire webpage.
Responsive images are images that are designed to adjust their size and resolution based on the size of the device or screen they are being viewed on. This allows images to look sharp and clear on any screen, whether its a small smartphone screen or a large desktop monitor.
Heres how to create responsive background images with CSS: Use the background-size property to encompass the viewport. Give this property a cover value that will tell a browser to scale the background images heights and width so that they always remain equal to or greater than the height/width of the device viewport.
To stretch the background image to cover the entire viewport, you can use 100vw for width and 100vh for height. In this example, background-size: 100vw 100vh; will stretch the background image to cover the entire viewport, both in width and height. The image will adjust itself as the viewport size changes.
An effective and straightforward approach to making images responsive is by setting an images width as a percentage of its parent container. As a result, when the parent containers size changes, the images size will adjust proportionally.
To fix this, we can use the object-fit CSS property on the element to determine how the image should be resized to fill its container. The object-fit property can be set with one of five values; the two commonly used values when you want to retain an images aspect ratio are contain and cover.
The object-fit: cover property can be used with an img element to achieve a similar effect. This property ensures that the image fills its container without distortion.
