To update an AMI, launch an instance and update its software. For that instance to have access to the AWS services that it needs, create an AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) role with the correct permissions policies attached.
To update an Auto Scaling group, specify the name of the group and the property that you want to change. Any properties that you dont specify are not changed by this update request. The new settings take effect on any scaling activities after this call returns.
Update AMI Navigate to AWS Console Services EC2 Auto Scaling Launch Configurations. Select a LC Copy launch configuration. Click Edit AMI. Click Create launch configuration.
After automation completes, in the Amazon EC2 console, choose Auto Scaling, and then choose Launch Templates. Verify that you see the new launch template, and that it uses the new AMI. Choose Auto Scaling, and then choose Auto Scaling Groups. Verify that the Auto Scaling group uses the new launch template.
Click the instance ID of the instance you want to edit. On the Instance details page, click Edit to go to the Edit instance page. Change the instance description, IP-based access control rules, and capacity as needed. For details, see Creating instances.
You cannot update the AMI on your current instance. You should create a new instance with the CentOS AMI.

Start with an existing AMI, launch an instance, customize it, create a new AMI from it, and finally launch an instance of your new AMI.

To create an AMI from a snapshot using the console Open the Amazon EC2 console at . In the navigation pane, choose Snapshots. Select the snapshot from which to create the AMI, and then choose Actions, Create image from snapshot. For Image name, enter a descriptive name for the image.
