To add a heading style Select Home Styles (or press Alt+H, then L), and then select the heading you want, such as the Heading 1 button.
There are three types of headings: question headings. statement headings. topic headings.
The simplest way to add headings is to use heading styles. Select the text you want to use as a heading. On the Home tab, click the heading style you want to use. If you dont see the style you want, click a left, right, or down arrow to see more available styles.
Edit your existing headers and footers Double-click the header or footer you want to edit, or select Header or Footer, and then select Edit Header or Edit Footer. Add or change text for the header or footer or do any of the following: When youre done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
To change the Outline level without messing up the rest of the formatting, select the text and then type SHIFT + ALT + left/right arrow.
Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and select only the following options under the Replace as you type category. Leave all other checkboxes blank.
In the Quick Styles gallery, right-click Heading 1 and choose Modify In the Style based on box, change the style to (no style). Repeat for Heading 2 and as many more levels of headings as youre using in the document.
Heading 1 page title or main content. There is usually only 1. Heading 2 a major section heading. Heading 3 a subsection heading of a major section.
