The detailed image quality stored within a TIFF means theyre ideal for scanned images and high-resolution documents. You might find them a useful choice for storing high-resolution images of your artwork or personal documents.
Open a raw image, TIFF or JPEG in Loupe view. Select Photo Enhance in the menu bar (or, Control-click on a Mac/right-click in Windows on the image and click on Enhance. Select Super Resolution from the Enhance box.
When it comes to TIFF, two main compression options are availabletheyre known as LZW or ZIP. What is this? Both ZIP and LZW are lossless compression methods. That means that no data is being lost in the compression, unlike a lossy format like JPG.
If youre going to do heavy editing, its better to shoot in RAW. But if youre going to be sharing the file, then its a good idea to convert it to a TIFF. Does TIFF lose quality? The short answer is no, TIFF doesnt compress your images and you dont lose quality every time you open and re-save the file.
Tiff files are designed for high-quality publications, and therefore normally are saved at higher resolutions, usually 150-300 ppi. Jpg files are designed for the internet, and therefore saved at lower resolutions, usually 72 ppi.
For the best print quality in Photoshop, we recommend using the following TIFF options: set the compression to LZW or ZIP to reduce file size without losing quality, choose the correct color profile (e.g., docHub RGB ), and ensure the resolution is set to 300 DPI, which is ideal for print output.
Both LZW and ZIP will give good results. Use either with confidence. But for 16-bit TIFF files, its clear: use ZIP.
Its possible to edit text in a TIFF file in Microsoft Word though only when the TIFF itself is a scanned document image. Youll need the original TIFF file to open and edit any text data.
