At least four different film versions of Of Mice and Men, including two adapted for television, have been released. The most recent version was released in 1992 with director Gary Sinise starring as George Milton and John Malkovich performing the role of Lennie Small.
His fist lost in Lennies paw animal imagery this surprises the men because they didnt knew how strong Lennie actually was. Lennie covered his face with his huge paws and bleated with terror more animal imagery relates back to the beginning when he asks George if he should go live in a cave.
The audience are first introduced to Curleys wife through the use of colour imagery, describing her profile. Curleys wife is described as having full rouged lips, and red fingernails, with the colour red embodying her character.
Lennies puppy is one of several symbols that represent the victory of the strong over the weak. Lennie kills the puppy accidentally, as he has killed many mice before, by virtue of his failure to recognize his own strength.
Furthermore, Steinbeck foreshadows that Lennie will accidentally kill Curleys wife creating an anxious mood. An example of foreshadowing that Lennie will kill Curleys wife is when Lennie is in the barn by himself and just killed his puppy by smacking it too hard.
Throughout the novella, one of the main characters, Lennie, is described through animalistic imagery. He is compared to many different animals because of his size, actions, and way of thinking. The animal imagery shows his actions are more instinctual than reasoned.
Candy represents what happens to everyone who gets old in American society: They are let go, canned, thrown out, used up. Candys greatest fear is that once he is no longer able to help with the cleaning he will be disposed of. Like his old dog, he has lived beyond his usefulness.
Steinbeck uses animal imagery to describe Lennie because he is often portrayed as being very strong physically like most animals, but mentally is disable which leads him to being unaware of his surroundings. To describe Lennie and acts on his instincts through his actions.
