hello and welcome to quick maths revision where today weve got a quick latex tutorial on how to create a formal document in latex thats either going to be a mathematical paper or an article so what well do is well start off with how to format your article or document so one little tick that I I quite like is in this back slash date section theres a shortcut that lay tech knows if you put backslash today then what thatll do is thatll automatically change the date to today so if I recompile this tomorrow then that would read first of November 2019 instead of 31st of October thats quite a cool trick so automatically on overleaf it gives you a title author and then date so then this backslash make title function here that will create this so if I was to type anything now so if I was to create a section we will call it section one what youll see is that that will be printed right underneath this title here so sometimes when you come to creating documents youll want to have a title

In a LaTeX document the table of contents can be automatically generated, and modified to fit a specific style, this article explain how.
You have to modify the \@dotsep register. The lines below go into the preamble. If necessary, set the register to a higher value.
Generally, the table of contents includes chapters, sections, and subsection. You are also allowed to add entries manually in LaTeX. This is generally done to add the unnumbered sections. To do so, just add the \addcontentsline command, as shown in the above example.
LaTeX also offers many options for customizing your Table of Contents. Change the List Headings. Add Page Above the Page Numbers. Change the Depth of Table of Contents Entries. Use Different Styles For Table of Contents Page Numbers. Add Lists of Table of Contents. Add a List of Figures in Table of Contents.
