A big reason for the change: We now better understand the way cervical cancer develops over timewe know it takes many years to developso weve expanded the time between screenings. We also now have two screening options to detect cervical cancer, the Pap test and the HPV test.
They cannot tell for certain if you have cervical cancer. An abnormal Pap test or HPV test result may mean more testing is needed to see if a cancer or a pre-cancer is present. Cervical cancer may also be suspected if you have symptoms like abnormal vaginal bleeding or pain during sex.
While these studies suggest that a large proportion (49%72%) of patients with cervical cancer had either not been screened or had been improperly screened, as many as 30%50% of women with cervical cancer had had a normal Pap result in the 35 years before their cervical cancer diagnosis.
Test-time adaptation (TTA) seeks to tackle po- tential distribution shifts between training and testing data by adapting a given model w.r.t. any testing sample.
Most women who are diagnosed with cervical cancer today have not had regular Pap smears, or they have not followed up on abnormal Pap smear results. Almost all cervical cancers are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that is spread through skin-to-skin contact and also by sexual intercourse.
Whilst about 1 in 20 women will have a smear test result which is abnormal, only about 1 in 2000 will have cervical cancer. That means approximately 1% of women with any grade of abnormal smear will have a cancer.
A normal, also called negative, Pap smear result indicates that no evidence of abnormal cells were found in the sample. An abnormal, or positive, result on a Pap smear indicates that abnormal cells were detected in the sample and additional treatment or testing may be necessary.

The Pap test does not check for ovarian cancer. The only cancer the Pap test screens for is cervical cancer. Since there is no simple and reliable way to screen for any gynecologic cancer except for cervical cancer, it is especially important to recognize warning signs, and learn what you can do to reduce your risk.
