It is possible to style a checkbox using Pseudo Elements like :before, :after, hover and :checked. To style the checkbox the user first needs to hide the default checkbox which can be done by setting the value of the visibility property to hidden.
Because we cant style the default checkbox using CSS, we need to hide it.There are several ways to hide the : Use display: none. Use visibility: hidden. Use opacity: 0. Position it off the screen using position: absolute and an insanely big value like left: -9999px.
Change checked boxes from an X to a checkmark If the developer tab isnt already visible, see Show the Developer tab. In your document, click the check box. On the Developer tab, click Properties. In the Content Control Properties dialog box, selectChange next to Checked symbol. In the Symbol box, look for a symbol.
The checkbox still displays its default style. The solution (in principle) Wrap your checkbox in a label element. Hide your checkbox. Add a new element after the checkbox which you will style ingly.
Custom Checkbox Style Step 1: Hide the Native Checkbox Input. # Step 2: Custom Unchecked Checkbox Styles. # Step 3: Styling :checked vs Unchecked State. # Step 4: The :focus state. # Styles For :disabled Checkboxes. #
Example /* Customize the label (the container) */ /* Hide the browsers default checkbox */ /* Create a custom checkbox */ /* On mouse-over, add a grey background color */ /* When the checkbox is checked, add a blue background */ /* Create the checkmark/indicator (hidden when not checked) */
Since a checkbox is an interactive control, it must be focusable and keyboard accessible. If the role is applied to a non-focusable element, use the tabindex attribute to change this. The expected keyboard shortcut for activating a checkbox is the Space key.
Input Checkbox value Property Return the value of the value attribute of a checkbox: getElementById(myCheck). value; Change the value associated with the checkbox: getElementById(myCheck). value = newCheckboxValue; Submitting a form - how to change the value associated with the checkbox: getElementById(myCheck).
Custom Checkbox Style Step 1: Hide the Native Checkbox Input. # Step 2: Custom Unchecked Checkbox Styles. # Step 3: Styling :checked vs Unchecked State. # Step 4: The :focus state. # Styles For :disabled Checkboxes. #
You cant style a disabled checkbox directly because its controlled by the browser / OS. However you can be clever and replace the checkbox with a label that simulates a checkbox using pure CSS. You need to have an adjacent label that you can use to style a new pseudo checkbox.
