What is PSD authentication?

What is Strong Customer Authentication? Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a new requirement of the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2), which aims to add extra layers of security to electronic payments.

What is the difference between SCA and 3DS2?

The second payment services directive (PSD2), a new EU regulation, requires payment services to implement strong customer authentication (SCA) when processing payments. 3DS2 is the updated card authentication process supported by card networks like Mastercard and Visa.

Is 3DS the same as SCA?

At a high level, 3D Secure (3DS) authentication is the most common form of SCA. At a more granular level, 3D Secure is a security protocol designed to reduce the risk of fraud, identity theft and other illicit activities during card-not-present transactions.

Is strong customer authentication the same as 3D Secure?

EMV 3DS (3-D Secure) is a form of Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) supported by Trust Payments in order to meet the requirements defined under the PSD2 mandate.

When should SCA be applied?

In particular, SCA will apply each time a payer: accesses its payment account online. initiates an electronic payment transaction. carries out any action through a remote channel which may imply a risk of payment fraud or other abuse.

What is the difference between SCA and PSD2?

SCA, also known as two-factor authentication, is a part of the PSD2 law that will bring an additional layer of security needed at the time of a transaction. Initially, customers used a time-bound one-time password to verify a transaction via 3D Secure (3DS).

What is SCA in 3D Secure?

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a European requirement under the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) first introduced in 2007 to make online payments more secure and greatly reduce the risk of fraud.
