Things to remember when filling out the Coggins form: All EIA test forms, regardless of additional identifiers must include name (if horse is named), age, breed, color and gender for the horse being tested. It is important to indicate months or years when declaring the age.
Not only is a negative EIA test required for entry into all 50 states, but it must also be performed at an accredited laboratory (your veterinarian will know which laboratories are EIA-approved). Your vet must be accredited with the United States Department of Agriculture to complete the EIA Test Chart (Coggins form).
Coggins test can take from anywhere from 2 to 7 days to get the results back, but many times you can rush the results in 24 hours if you pay an extra fee to the lab analyzing the blood test.
The Coggins is then mailed back to the veterinarian and then your original copy of the test is mailed to you. This process normally takes up to one week. It is possible to obtain a RUSH Coggins (less than 1 week) for a slightly higher charge.
You can create and submit electronic Coggins forms in the Veterinary Services Process Streamline (VSPS) system or request paper copies from your local Veterinary Services Area Office.

Related Q&A to Coggins Order Form

Any horse owner or caretaker in the United States is required to file a Coggins form. The form is used to document the results of a test that is done to determine if a horse has equine infectious anemia (EIA).
EIA is spread between horses by biting insects, such as horseflies and deerflies. The good news is that EIA is very rare in the US and new cases have continued to decrease annually, to a current level of approximately 0.02% positive of all horses tested.
Digital Coggins are available with regular turnaround time (about 3 days) or rapid turnaround (2 hour).
