The law permits amendments to be made to a Certificate of Marriage Registration where the error was not the result of any intended fraud, deception or attempt to avoid the effect of any valid law, regulation or statute.
Application Requirements. You must be 18 and older to be permitted to marry in New York State. If you provide all necessary documents, you will get a Marriage License on the same day. If your appointment was online, your Cupid account will have a digital download.
Submitting the License after the Marriage Ceremony The Marriage Officiant must return the Marriage License within 5 business days to the City Clerks borough office where the Marriage License was issued. You will receive your Certificate of Marriage Registration in the mail within approximately 20 days.
The fee is $40.00 for the license and $10.00 for an additional Certificate of Marriage Registration if needed. The latter is automatically sent by the Clerk to the applicants within 15 days after the completed license is returned by the officiant. It serves as notice that a record of the marriage is on file.
The couple must have the ceremony in New York for the license to be valid. After the ceremony, the couple must file the completed license with the issuing clerk and, within 15 days, they will receive a Certificate of Marriage. If a license is not filed,there is no legal marriage.

If you would like to get married in NYS you can obtain a marriage license from any Town or City Clerk. You will need to have photo ID (drivers license, passport), birth certificate, and if you have been married before, judgment of divorce for all previous marriages.
You and your prospective spouse must have at least one witness, who must be 18 years of age or over. The witness or witnesses must bring proper identification. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, we currently only allow one witness. No other guest are permitted.
