The Circuit Court Clerks office offers in-person marriage license applications BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
Virginia has no wait period between the issuance of the marriage license and the ceremony. The license is good for 60 days from the date of issue and must be returned to the issuing office within 5 business days of the date of the ceremony.
Marriage License Application General Information Marriage licenses must be obtained within 60 days of the wedding date. Licenses may be purchased anywhere in the Commonwealth of Virginia and may be used anywhere in the Commonwealth. The marriage license fee is $33.00. Payment is accepted in Cash, Check or Credit card.
You can apply for your marriage license in Virginia by either showing up in person at any county/city court clerks office or going online. The following county court clerks offices allow you to apply online and send you a confirmation email once you do: Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William.
Certified copies of your marriage license may be obtained in person or by mail from the circuit court clerks office that issued the marriage license. IN-PERSON COPIES: You or someone on your behalf may come to the Clerks Office to request copies: Hours: 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday.
