Who qualifies for Meals on Wheels in Orange County, California? Our program participants must be 60+ years of age and homebound due to illness, disability, or lack of mobility. Grocery shopping and preparing meals are very difficult, and they do not always have family or friends available to help.
The actual cost of each meal served averages $8.03 per meal. The suggested contribution for eligible seniors is $4.00 per meal. No one is denied service because of an inability to contribute. All donations are used to purchase additional meals and minimize the necessity for waiting lists.
The Senior Food Program is a federal program that provides monthly supplemental food packages to income-eligible senior citizens aged 60 and over. The Food Bank administers the program and distributes USDA-provided food at more than 70 distribution sites every month in communities throughout San Diego County.
How to get started: Call Senior Resource Connection at 937-228-3663 (food) or 1-855-854-8778. You may also contact us here. We will work with you to determine you or your loved ones\ program eligibility. We will then start delivering a hot meal between 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM five days a week.
Original Medicare (parts A and B) does not usually cover food delivery services, but some Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans and community organizations do.
