Vehicle title transfers must be completed in the applicants county of residence. A new owner has 30 days to present the properly assigned title to their county treasurer so that a title can be issued in the new owners name. Penalties apply after 30 days.
Once the application is received by the Treasurers office, a five day waiting period goes into effect. The title will be printed on day six. You may then pick up your replacement title at the county Treasurers office or we can mail it to the specified address on the application.
The fee for a replacement title is $25.00. Complete the Application for Replacement of Iowa Certificate of Title to a Motor Vehicle (Iowa DOT Form 411033). The application must be signed by all owners. If there is an open lien on the vehicle, the application must be signed by the lien holder.
You need to complete an Application for Replacement Title, pay $25, and after 5 days your title will be printed and mailed to the specified address on the application. If the scheduled print day falls on a weekend or holiday, your title will be printed on the next working day.
Iowa law requires you to title and register your motor vehicle with the county treasurers office in your county, or an Iowa county contiguous (bordering) your county, within 30 days from the date you establish residency.
