DocHub and PerForm Total assets comparison FAQ

The meaning of total assets is all the assets, or items of value, a small business owns. Included in total assets is cash, accounts receivable (money owing to you), inventory, equipment, tools etc.
The balance sheet is broken into two main areas. Assets are on the top or left, and below them or to the right are the companys liabilities and shareholders equity. A balance sheet is also always in balance, where the value of the assets equals the combined value of the liabilities and shareholders equity.
There are broadly three types of asset distribution 1) based on Convertibility (Current and Noncurrent Assets), 2) Physical Existence (Tangible and Intangible Assets), and 3) Usage (Operating and Non-Operating Assets).
The return on total assets ratio is calculated by dividing a companys earnings after tax by its total assets. Total assets are equal to the sum of the shareholders equity and the companys debt. This value is found on the companys balance sheet.
What are Total Assets? Total assets refers to the sum of the book values of all assets owned by an individual, company, or organization. It is a parameter that is often used in net worth debt covenants. The value of a companys total assets is obtained after accounting for depreciation associated with the assets.
Determine total assets by combining your liabilities with your equity. Since liabilities represent a negative value, the simplest method for finding total assets with this formula is to subtract the value of liabilities from the value of equity or assets. The resulting figure equals your total assets.
What is included in total assets? Included in total assets are all the current and noncurrent assets listed in a balance sheet financial statement. These are some examples of assets: cash, accounts receivables, inventories, property, plant, equipment, and intangible assets.
Total Assets = Current Assets + Noncurrent Assets.
Ideally, a company with a high total asset turnover ratio can operate with fewer assets than a less efficient competitor, and so requires less debt and equity to operate. The result should be a comparatively greater return to its shareholders.
A balance sheet is calculated by balancing a companys assets with its liabilities and equity. The formula is: total assets = total liabilities + total equity.
