To become a Navy SEAL, you must be an active-duty member of the U.S. Navy and a U.S. citizen who can read, write and speak English fluently. You must also usually be under the age of 28, although waivers are sometimes allowed for candidates who are 29 to 30 years old.
Navy SEALs are known around the world as formidable warfighters who can do the unimaginable. The path to that profession often starts right here at the U.S. Naval Academy.
You can apply to become a Navy SEAL as a civilian, a Navy sailor or even as a service member from another military branch. Both new recruits and active-duty military candidates must pass a battery of physical, technical and psychological exams.
Civilians who aspire to become Navy SEALs must enlist through Active Duty. The Navy Reserve does not offer a direct path for civilians to become SEALs. Eligibility: Civilians must enlist in the Navy for Active Duty to pursue a career as a Navy SEAL.
However, you have to pass the ELEVATED standards of the Navy SEAL Physical Screening Test (PST) to receive your contract to attend BUDS after graduation from Boot Camp. Today, Navy Special Warfare has instituted a draft similar to the NFL draft process - where the best candidates get selected first.
How much does a Navy Seal make? As of Jul 31, 2024, the average annual pay for a Navy Seal in the United States is $98,176 a year. Just in case you need a simple salary calculator, that works out to be approximately $47.20 an hour. This is the equivalent of $1,888/week or $8,181/month.
You dont have to be in the Navy already to join the SEALS, but you do have to be tough. Navy SEAL training takes more than a year, and its brutally demanding.
The tricky part for Officers is first becoming an Officer and then getting a slot in a BUD/S class. The best chance of getting to BUD/S as an Officer is by graduating from the Naval Academy. Getting accepted into the Academy at all is a very difficult task in itself. You need to be extremely accomplished academically.
