In this video, weamp;#39;ll walk through a typical image processing workflow. Weamp;#39;ll use MATLAB and Image Processing Toolbox to analyze deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon rainforest is the largest and most diverse rainforest in the world. These are satellite images of the Jamanxim National Forests in Brazil, which has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the Amazon. But there have been docHub efforts in recent years to slow the deforestation. Letamp;#39;s analyze images taken every four years of the same region to see the impact of those conservation efforts. First, weamp;#39;ll have to identify the deforested regions in each image, and then calculate their area in pixels. We can then use this scale to convert the area from pixels to square kilometers. The LoG operator calculates the second spatial derivative of an image. This means that in areas where the image has a constant intensity (i.e. where the intensity gradient is zero), the LoG response will be zero.
Log transformation of an image means replacing all pixel values, present in the image, with its logarithmic values. Log transformation is used for image enhancement as it expands dark pixels of the image as compared to higher pixel values.
Log Transformation - right skewed data When the data sample follows the power law distribution, we can use log scaling to transform the right skewed distribution into normal distribution. To achieve this, simply use the np. log() function.
The log transformation is often used to reduce skewness of a measurement variable. If, after transformation, the distribution is symmetric, then the Welch t-test might be used to compare groups. If, also, the distribution becomes close to normal, then a reference interval might be determined.
Log Transformations Mathematically, log transformations can be expressed as s = clog(1+r) . Here, s is the output intensity, r=0 is the input intensity of the pixel, and c is a scaling constant. c is given by 255/(log (1 + m)) , where m is the maximum pixel value in the image.
During log transformation, the dark pixels in an image are expanded as compared to the higher pixel values. The higher pixel values are kind of compressed in log transformation. Meaning, darker pixel get brighter whereas the brighter pixels dont change much. We adjust the value of c to get the desired enhancement.
log() method returns the natural logarithm of a number, or the logarithm of number to base.
