Using the CHAR Function to Insert Symbols Find the Unicode number of the symbol you want to insert. In your Google Sheet, type =CHAR() into a cell. Inside the parentheses, enter the Unicode number of your desired symbol. Press Enter, and the symbol will appear in the cell.
The CHAR function can be used to insert specific characters into a cell, including line breaks. To use this function, the user must first determine the character code for a line break. The character code for a line break is 10.
