Banners are the pop-up notifications you see while youre using your phone. Below those options are two more: Sounds and Badges. Sounds are the audio tone alerts. Badges are the red circles with numbers that show up on app icons, for example, the one on your email app showing how many unread messages you have.
Banners and badges are quite different. Banners are displayed at the top of the screen when a notification is received. They will disappear automatically after a couple of seconds. Badges are displayed on app and folder icons on your Home screen to notify you of something new in an app.
An employee badge is a physical credential that employees wear or carry to identify themselves within the workplace. It typically includes essential information such as the employees name, photo, job title, and sometimes a barcode or magnetic strip.
Badges are indicators on apps in the upper right corner that would tell you things like: Number of new Messages. Missed phone calls. Unread emails.
If you dont want to use any other types of alert for an app, Badges can be a good prompt for you to open the app itself to read any notifications youve missed. That said, disabling badges for every app is also a great way to simplify your iPhone or iPad Home Screen.
When you turn on badges, certain app icons can display information. If you turn on badges for Mail, for example, the number of unread emails in your inbox appears above the Mail icon on your Home Screen.
Applications native to mobile and desktop operating systems can display badges on top of their app icons to inform users that new content is available. For example, an email client application can display the total number of unread messages in a badge and update this number even if the app is not running.
Your iPhone will alert you when theres a message, voicemail, email or other updates. Your iPhone can alert you with a sound, or a text alert on your screen. There are different alert styles notifications, banners, and badges. You can also choose to not have any type of alerts on your iPhone by modifying settings.
