Lines 16-38 of Form 1040 calculates your tax liability, lists any credits you are entitled to, and determines the amount of your refund or the amount you owe. The tax due from ordinary income and/or capital gains and qualified dividends is calculated on Line 16.
For sole proprietors, net income from your pass-through business appears on Line 31 of the Schedule C that accompanies Form 1040. Personal net income is not explicitly identified on Form 1040, but you can calculate it by subtracting Line 24, Total Tax, from Line 15, Taxable Income.

To determine the amount for line 13, youll need to complete the Credit Limit Worksheet A found in the Schedule 8812 instructions booklet (page 4). On line 14, enter the smaller of lines 12 or 13. This is your Child Tax Credit and Credit for Other Dependents.
Line 16 is a manual entry of tax in the far right-hand column. Review the Form 1040 instructions for the three checkboxes. Do not check any of the boxes or enter any information associated with these checkboxes unless you are instructed to do so.
