[MUSIC PLAYING] ABBY RANDALL: An Exit Ticket is a short assessment given at the end of class that the students must complete before they can leave class for the day. So on a scrap piece of paper please put your name. These are Exit Tickets. Exit Tickets can be anything from a prepared one or two question little quiz that youve typed up or written, or it can be as simple as throwing a question up on the overhead and giving them scrap paper and having them solve it. They like the routine. They know exactly what to do. They know, at the end of the day, theyre going to be held accountable. Its a really quick way for me to assess if students learned the concept of the day. I often use it as the you-do part of guided practice, so once the students have practiced together, and weve done it together, then they are able to show me if they can do it on their own. The most common use of 3-2-1 Ive seen is in response to a reading or lessonusually 3 things you learned, 2 things that made you curious or confused, and 1 most important thing you learned or should do with what youve learned.
The 3-2-1 exit slip strategy is a method of summarizing ones learning with a basic format in which: Students write three things they learned in todays lesson. Next, students write two things they liked or two interesting facts about the lesson. Finally, students write one question they still have about the lesson.
You could also use the 3-2-1 structure to help students identify main ideas from supporting information. For example, you could ask students to record three of the most important ideas from the lesson or text, two supporting details for each of these ideas, and one question they have about each of these ideas.
The Exit-Slip strategy requires students to write responses to questions you pose at the end of class. Exit Slips help students reflect on what they have learned and express what or how they are thinking about the new information.
After the lesson, have each student record three things he or she learned from the lesson. Next, have students record two things that they found interesting and that theyd like to learn more about. Then, have students record one question they still have about the material.
Sample Exit Tickets provide feedback to the teacher about the class; require the student to do some synthesis of the days content; challenge the student with a question requiring some application of what was learned in the lesson.
Art exit slips are small, bite-sized assessments. They typically take 2 5 minutes to complete. Teachers hand them out at the end of an art lesson to gauge their students understanding and reflection of the lesson.
ing to Fisher and Frey (2004), there are three categories of exit slips that you can use: Prompts that document learning. Example: Write one thing you learned today. Prompts that emphasize the process of learning. Example: I didnt understand Prompts to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction.
