If you have failed to disclose previous convictions or adverse financial history to your insurance company, you may now find that your insurance has been cancelled, or if the non-disclosure was deemed reckless or deliberate, you may now have had your policy declared void from the start date.
A policy or other contract that has no legal validity is described as void. When an insurance company voids a life insurance policy, it is usually due to the discovery of misrepresentation of material facts by the person insured.
Definition: having no legal effect; not legally binding. After discovering misrepresentation, the insurer declared the policy void.
If the insurer finds that a material misrepresentation was made in the application that would have affected the insurers decision to issue the policy, the carrier may void the policy. The company would have the responsibility only to refund premiums paid.
Your insurer can void your policy if they believe you purposely did not disclose important information. They may suspect that you tried to make a fraudulent claim. A policy that has been made void will be invalid from the start date, as though it never existed, so any claims in progress will be rejected.
This happens when the insurance company finds out that some of the information provided by the policyholder is false or against proper premium evaluation.
A void insurance policy has no legal effect, and no coverage under the policy was ever in force. Certain actions or inactions by the policyholder cause a policy to become void, like misrepresentation, or failing to inform their provider when something changes about the insured property, or how they use it.
Youll have to declare a cancelled policy to any new insurance provider. A cancelled policy is a red flag to insurance providers and you may struggle to find a mainstream provider to cover you. You may also end up paying a lot more for your car insurance.
