Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Kroly Zsolnai-Fehr. This research group is known for their extraordinary ideas, and this piece of work is, of course, no exception. This paper is about time varying textures. Have a look at these photographs that were taken at a different time. And the million dollar question is, can we simulate how this texture would look if we were to go forward in time? A texture weathering simulation, if you will. The immediate answer is that of course not. However, in this piece of work, a single input image is taken, and without any user interaction, the algorithm attempts to understand how this texture might have looked in the past. Now, lets start out by addressing the elephant in the room: this problem can obviously not be solved in the general case for any image. However, if we restrict our assumptions to textures that contain a repetitive pattern, then it is much more feasible to identify the weathering patterns. To achieve this, an age

Texture stands for a surface of an object, its tactile quality but also the visual effect it can produce. This duality between the sense of physical touch and visual observation led to the discernment of different forms of texture in theory.
The process of texturing is rather easy: you start with a base layer that contains the properties of the material that you are trying to create and add different layers where you can change the color, roughness, metallic properties and much more until you achieve the required level of realism.
Texture is the way harmonies, melodies, rhythms, and timbres (=sound qualities such as different instrument sounds) relate to create the overall effect of a piece of music. The four common texture types are monophonic, polyphonic, homophonic, and heterophonic. Monophonic texture includes only a single melody line.
There are three categories of texture: tactile, visual, and audible. Tactile texture is the feel of a material to human touch. Visual texture affects how an object or room looks, and audible texture affects how the object or room sounds.
The most common types are diffuse, emissive, normal, opacity, specular, and gloss.
Different textures could be described as being lumpy, rough, smooth, rubbery, or soft. There are many words to describe the feel or sensation of different textures.
Combining timbres is a very important aspect of creating musical textures that make one piece of music stand out from another. There are four types of textures that appear in music, Monophony, Polyphony, Homophony, and Heterophony. These four textures appear in music from around the world.
A texture is usually described as smooth or rough, soft or hard, coarse of fine, matt or glossy, and etc.
