APA Style (7th ed.) Begin every line of text from the left margin, except for the first line of each paragraph. Indent each line of a new paragraph one tab space, which should be set at 1.27 cm or 0.5 in (American Psychological Association, 2020, p. 45).
Every paragraph should be at least five sentences long. Good paragraphs must be at least one page long. Its okay for paragraphs to vary in length.
Your paper should be double spaced unless otherwise specified by your unit assessor. There should be no extra spacing between paragraphs. This does not include the title page (see Figure 1), within tables and figures, footnotes or equations.
Vary Sentence Length to Engage Your Reader Short sentences have punch and are a great way to emphasize important points. Longer sentences add rhythm to your writing. By using both short and long sentences, you add interest and drama to your writing that keeps your readers attention.
First line of each paragraph is indented an inch. No extra space between paragraphs or sections; in Paragraph Format, set Before After to 0.

Most of the paragraphs in a document should be a roughly similar length. If you find that they vary a lot, it may be sign that some ideas in your document are underdeveloped and need expanding. Various educators teach rules governing the length of paragraphs. They may say that a paragraph should be 100 to 200 words long, or be no more than five or six sentences. But a good paragraph should not be measured in characters, words, or sentences. The true measure of your paragraphs should be ideas.
