The constituent of solder i.e. lead and tin differ in their boiling points, hence can be separated by method of distillation.
It is a soft, silvery white metal with a bluish tinge, known to the ancients in bronze, an alloy with copper. Tin is widely used for plating steel cans used as food containers, in metals used for bearings, and in solder.
Tom, My favorite stripper for tin off copper is a 50-50 mixture of Nitric and Muriatic Acids. You have to be extremely careful, and use exhaust ventilation, as it will fume like crazy. Also you have to be really careful with it or it will boil from the top of the container.
Commercial grades of tin (99.8% tin content) resist transformation because of the inhibiting effect of small amounts of bismuth, antimony, lead, and silver present as impurities. Alloying elements such as copper, antimony, bismuth, cadmium, and silver increase the hardness of tin.
Fuming processes, such as sulfurization and chlorination roasting, are practised to separate tin from middle-grade tin-bearing materials of tin-ore tailings and tin smelting slag [8].
While you could do this by electrolysis, there is a much easier way. It so happens that tin metal will dissolve in non-oxidizing acids, while copper metal doesnt. So just immerse the object in hydrochloric acid (aka muriatic acid or spirits of salt) and the tin coating will be dissolved away.
After removal of copper, tin can be separated from lead by oxidation, either together with, or more usually separate from, antimony and arsenic.
The method comprises the following steps of: smelting the tin-containing lead bullion in a smelting device, and then adding sulphur powder into the molten tin-containing lead bullion at the temperature of between 450 and 650 DEG C; fully mixing the sulphur powder and the molten bullion in a stirring way, and preparing
