When a combined ACL MCL injury occurs, one may feel or hear a pop followed by swelling, pain, and joint instability. A torn ACL requires reconstruction. A tendon graft is taken from the patient and the torn ligament is removed. The surgeon will drill tunnels into the thigh bone (or femur) and the shin bone (or tibia). This enables surgeons to accurately position and attach the graft. The graft is then secured with screws or other devices Due to a good blood supply to the MCL, the torn ligament can be repaired and healed. The surgeon will reattach the MCL sewing the torn ends together. Full recovery may take up to a year.

There are two treatment options for ACL injury: Nonsurgical treatment such as a brace to protect from instability and physical therapy to strengthen the surrounding ligaments to provide greater stability. Surgical reconstruction of the ACL to restore the internal structures of the knee to enable maximal stability.
Very minor tears (sprains) may heal with non-surgical treatments and regenerative medicine therapy. But full ACL tears cannot be healed without surgery. If your activities do not involve making pivoting movements on the knee, physical therapy rehabilitation may be all you need.
Standard treatment for ACL or PCL mucoid degeneration without OA is arthroscopic partial excision of the cruciate ligament. 13, 14 But the resection can be partial or complete ,1, 4, 11 when the lesion concerns the whole ACL, from tibial to femoral insertion and both bundles.
Treatment Partial/Total ACL resection arthroscopically- There is marked improvement in the range and reduced posterior pain, but at the cost of increased post-operative knee laxity. [3]in some cases, and may lead to instability. Arthroscopic debridement. Notchplasty.
Mucoid degeneration of the ACL, with a prevalence rate of approximately 0.4%, is a rare cause of knee pain in the middle-aged patient group without a history of any major knee trauma [2].
ACL injuries can either be complete or partial. While complete ACL tears almost always require surgery, partial ACL tears may be treated effectively with nonsurgical methods. ACL tears are graded by severity and are called sprains (a sprain is a stretch or tear in a ligament).
Complete ACL tears have a much less positive outcome without surgery. After a complete ACL tear, some patients are unable to participate in cutting- or pivoting-type sports, while others have instability during even normal activities, such as walking.
Mid-substance ACL injuries: This type of injury occurs in the middle of the ligament and can be either partial or complete tears. Mid-substance injuries can be caused by sudden twisting or hyperextension of the knee or by direct trauma to the knee.
