Binary Subtraction Using 1s Complement Write the 1s complement of the subtrahend. Then add the 1s complement subtrahend with the minuend. Since the binary system uses only two digits or bits and represents numbers using varying patterns of 1s and 0s, it is known as a base-2 system. Here, 1 refers to on or true, while 0 refers to off or false.
The MSB (Most docHub Bit) of both operands are respectively 0 and 1. The carry in (coming from the sum of all the previous bits) is 1, and the carry out is thus equal to: 0 (MSB first operand) + 1 (MSB second operand) + 1 (carry in) = 1, as you correctly pointed out.
