Hi, Im Dennis Moreland. Today Id like to talk about Western Headstalls There are two types: one ear or a brownband We either have a slot ear or slide ear The Browband is used on colts and there are a lot of safety factors in. When you first put the headstall on just barely have it in the mouth just barely touching in the corners and adjust each side so that it fits evenly in the corners of the mouth with no wrinkles. The browband prevents the headstall from sliding back and pulling up in the horses mouth. The throat latch is a safety factor when youre riding the colt cant rub the head stall off his head and you need to adjust the throat latch where you can get your hand freely underneath the throat latch so it doesnt blind them. The Curb on a snaffle bit does not add pressure to the jaw its purpose is to keep the reins from pulling through the horses mouth. for more tips and to take a look at some of the countrys finest handmade tap Log on to DMtack.com
