Standard Via Sizes The most common via size is 10 mil, which is 7 mil after plating, but via size typically depends on the thickness of the board and is considered an aspect ratio equation. Micro vias, both laser drilled and mechanically drilled 4 mil holes, are related to the thickness of the boards.
Minimum-sized vias (0.25-0.3 mm) are typically preferred. Smaller epoxy-filled vias require less material; however, depending on board thickness, smaller vias may necessitate laser drilling.
Typically, without adding cost, the minimum drill size is 0.25 mm and the minimum annular ring is 0.15 mm. However, it is important that we stay away from minimums if we cant otherwise avoid doing so.
The internal of a via: As you can see current flows on the walls of the via. If you fill the via with copper afterwards, it will be able to carry more current. You can see below, the finished hole is your 0.75mm hole and pad size is your diameter (1.35mm).
Again, the PCB manufacturing cost will increase and the yield will decrease. What size of via should I use? I get this a question a lot), and as a general purpose via I can recommend the following sizes: Large: 0.7 mm pad, 0.3 mm drill. Medium: 0.6 mm pad, 0.25 mm drill.
IPC standards depict that buried and blind vias must have a diameter of 6mils (150micrometers) or less. Microvias: ing to IPC-T-50M, microvia is a blind structure with an ideal aspect ratio of 0.75:1. It is laser-drilled, with a diameter of less than 150m.
The best practice for epoxy filled vias is to have a FINISHED via hole diameter between the sizes of 0.008 and 0.018 (easy to remember!).
The typical layout shows a via capture pad size of 0.495 mm, a via size of 0.254 mm, and an inner space and trace of 0.102 mm. With this layout, only one trace can be routed between the vias.
