If the turn changes the wind from one side of the boat to the other, you will have tacked or jibed. It will be a TACK (also called coming about) if you turn the bow of the boat through the eye of the wind, and it will be a JIBE if you turn the stern through the eye of the wind.
Jibing, one of the other turning maneuvers is simply the opposite of a tack. Recall that during a tack, the bow of the boat passes through the wind. During a jibe, the stern of the boat passes through the wind. We teach tacking before jibing because tacking is a safer turn.
The Helm declares that they are beginning to tack by saying, Hard-A-Lee. There are a couple variations on this command and if you want to say something else, its your boat, just make sure everyone on your boat understands what you are commanding.
Tacking is the sailing manoeuvre used to change a boats direction through an oncoming wind. Tacking a sailing boat calls for the crew to work as a co-ordinated team and is one of the first sailing skills to learn.

Since a header is a shift that heads your boat more downwind, you need to tack your sailboat in headers to sail straight up the course toward the windward mark. If a boat is sailing on a heading tack, by tacking it will sail in a lift on the opposite tack.
To tack is to change direction by turning the bow of the boat through the wind. Your tack is also the course you are on relative to the wind. For example, if the wind is blowing over the port side, you are on a port tack.
