a papsmear is a sample of cells from the surface of the cervix and so typically what you do is you go to a gynecologist office and we visualize the cervix we have a little instrument called a speculum and thereamp;#39;s a brush that we use to take off some of those cells and they can either be put in liquid or they can be put directly on a glass slide and so then thereamp;#39;s a specialized group of doctors and technicians called Pathologists or cyot technologists that uh look under the microscope and then there are certain patterns they look for to tell you you have a pre-cancerous change or cancerous change and so you know and then there are recommendations about how frequently to have that test done for women about 80% of women in the United States have had a pat screen in the last three years so we do a pretty reasonable job in getting women in and getting them screened
