Cruise ships have a lot to offer for a great vacation but these passengers learned the hard way all the things that can go wrong at sea. Overboard. Oh my God. This cruise ship hit a bad storm that was anything but relaxing. Being on a rollercoaster for 17 hours in your room not even tied down. 45 degree angle, it was hell. Royal Caribbeans Anthem of the Seas was headed to the Bahamas from New Jersey when it got pummeled by high winds and rough seas. We are actually at the moment having over 100 knots of wind. The ship eventually turned around but passengers were afraid of the worst case scenario. It was very, very scary. We didnt think we were gonna get back home. Terrifying. The cruise line apologized for the experience and refunded everyones money for the washed out trip. And hows this for washed out? Yes, cruise ships are designed to safely handle lightning strikes. Yes, lightning strikes do happen - but extremely rarely. In 1,423 voyages, I have experienced one lightning strike on a ship. That was 17 years ago in Hawaii during a rare thunderstorm.
Then you know why you need a nightlight. Cabins especially those on the windowless interior of the ship can get really dark. Combine that with an unfamiliar layout that you arent used to, and its a recipe for bumping into things in the middle of the night. A cheap nightlight (these are two for $7) is a must have.
Yes, some cruise ships have fireworks! If fireworks at sea is a major factor for your next cruise, Disney cruise lines will be your best bet. Disney is currently the only major cruise line offering fireworks at sea.
The damage typically consisted of shivering or splintering of the mainmast: Long shards of wood flew in every direction, sometimes wounding a sailor or knocking him off the deck. Sails and rigging might catch fire, requiring officers and crew to smother the flames with the aid of the rain and wind.
Candles, Incense, Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, Travel Steamers Hot Plates. (Items that generate heat or produce an open flame. This includes heating pads, clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense, and any other item that may create a fire hazard.
Flashlights and glow sticks: Passengers aboard cruise ships that lost power report being frightened and disoriented in lightless cabins and hallways. Pack at least one flashlight with extra batteries, so you wont be left in the dark.
Using your phone to take pictures wont incur any charges, but they wont be backed up to the cloud unless youre connected to Wi-Fi on your ship or in port.
What to Pack for a Cruise Bring activity-appropriate clothing and shoes. Bring a Back Pack or Beach Tote. Bring Sunscreen and After-Sun Lotion. Bring Your Own Toiletries. Bring Medications for Upset Stomach and Motion Sickness. Bring an Underwater Camera. Bring Cash for Tipping. Bring a Portable Back Up Battery Charger.
