hi its Frank whos from mini live.com today were going to look at adjusting the compound and cross-slide as they come from the factory theyre sometimes not optimal and theyre actually one of the most important adjustments you can make on the mini lathe if you havent adjusted properly you should get pretty smooth and even movement in and out but if you have them adjusted improperly you may feel a lot of variation as you turn the hand wheels they may be stiff this ones a little stiff right now or you may feel as you turn around the circle that its tighter in some spots and looser another spots also there can be a certain amount of play in here and this one I intentionally introduce someplace I could demonstrate that but if you take the tool post and wiggle it if you see any movement of the whole assembly here that can lead to trouble it can cause your tool to dig in as it starts to cut that flex in there will cause the tool to drop down suddenly and at least youll get a bad case
