Tone, Shade and Tint Tone indicates the saturation of the hue. The amount of saturation is known as the tonal value. The tonal value of a hue is said to be adjusted, or toned down when you reduce its vibrance without altering the hue. Black, grey or white is added to a hue to adjust its tonal value.
