this video is an introduction to xps xps is most often viewed through the analysis of xps data which involves using software to work out quantification and chemical state information based on spectra that are gathered from samples but to properly understand how the sample is analyzed in terms of the software its important to have some appreciation of the xps technique itself so this involves having an understanding of what were looking at in terms of energy spectra and also how spectra are acquired that will then be processed to produce the information that were after an xps spectrum is an energy spectrum and the energy spectrum is acquired by changing the energy at which we sample the number of electrons that arrive at a detector and as a consequence of these types of measurements we can create a histogram of intensity as a function of energy here its plotted as intensity as a function of binding energy and the binding energy is related to an electronic configuration with an atom

XPS is manufactured in a continuous extrusion process that produces a closed cell form of foam insulation. EPS, on the other hand, is manufactured by expanding spherical beads in a mold and then using heat and pressure to fuse the beads together. Each product has proponents claiming one out performs the other.

Extruded Polystyrene (XPS), is manufactured via an extrusion process where plastic resin and other additives are combined and extruded through a die. The extruded foam then cools and expands into it's final shape. Extruded Polystyrene Foam Cell Structure. Insulating Properties of XPS Foam.
Polystyrene Insulation FOAMULAR® XPS Insulation has high resistance to water because it is closed cell and is comprised of hydrophobic polystyrene polymer.
Butyl Tape Can Help Attach Foamboard to Brick Mixing butyl tape with spray foam is a great way to create a permanent seal. The spray foam needs time to cure, and the butyl tape can keep the foamboard in place during this process. Of course, you can hold the foamboard while the spray foam cures, but that takes time.
FOAMULAR® XPS products have an R-value of 5 per inch of thickness, and due to their closed cell structure they resist water absorption, maintaining a high R-value for reliable long term service.
Expanded Polystyrene insulation has a higher R-value retention as compared to Extruded Polystyrene. While Extruded Polystyrene is characterized by off gassing, the gasses eventually escape, meaning the initially high R-value gradually decreases. Insulation R-value is lost in unison with the gas escape.
Expanded Polystyrene, referred to as XPS, is a closed cell insulation product commonly used in remodeling and new construction applications. Due to the manufacturing process, XPS insulation is typically available only in standard dimension square or rectangular boards.
EPS is, in other words, composed of 2% polystyrene and 98% air. Since still air is the best thermal insulator, EPS makes for an excellent insulation material.
