if you want to get better at drawing you need to spend some time practicing certain skills and unfortunately there are no magic tricks or shortcuts theres no three things you need to know to instantly improve your drawing theres just practice and patience but it does help to know what to practice and to be able to draw realistically one of the skills you need to have is controlled shading ive got three simple shading exercises to test how good you are at shading now if you try these exercises and you cant do them easily its really worth practicing them regularly because the reality is if you cant achieve these three basic exercises youre not going to be able to get a really good result when youre shading anything else the three exercises well do are shading smooth light values shading smooth dark values and shading smooth transitional values lets give them a go im using a 3b pencil just so you can see it on the screen id recommend using a 2b pencil or an hb pencil somethin
