borshaco was an Olympic lifting and powerlifting Coach and hes known for having one of the most impressive winning streaks in the history of powerlifting uh while he was the coach of the Russian team the team went undefeated in World competition in for seven years and he has coached 39 world champions he gained popularity sometime in the last decade with the rise in popularity of powerlifting in the eagerness of new lifters to get a handle on what constituted good formal sport specific powerlifting training it also helped that Boris Shaco came out of the Soviet system which has kind of a romanticized role in Western culture they are very formal very calculated very top down in their approach and because of that their methods look very different than what we tend to do because Western culture was a lot more influenced by bodybuilding and sports where training could be a lot more informal a lot more intuitive Western culture tends to focus a lot more on the amount of work we do in a par

Beginners should bench and squat two, maybe three, times a week and deadlift around one time a week. Every week, adding a little more weight, while trying to get better and more efficient. For the first three to six months, you should be able to add some kind of weight almost every week.
A 1200 pound 3-lift total (bench press, squats and deadlifts) is more than 95% of gym rats will ever accomplish. A 1500 pound 3-lift total is a huge accomplishment, and will be hard to beat at most local, natural powerlifting meets.
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves the athlete attempting a maximal weight single-lift effort of a barbell loaded with weight plates.
Membership: Most powerlifting federations require competitors to be registered members of the federation in good standing. Youll need to pay a membership fee and possibly show proof of your membership at the time of registration. Age: Powerlifting meets may have different divisions based on age groups.
Regardless of the weight on the bar, you must be able to squat to depth, bench with a pause, and deadlift without ramping the bar. If you can do all three lifts to a competition standard you are capable of successfully doing a meet.
This is a difficult comparison to make-because there are so many different age groups bodyweight divisions. In the lighter weight groups- a total of 910 times bodyweight would make you an ELITE lifter.
For men, Ive often suggested being able to squat double bodyweight, deadlift twice bodyweight and be able to bench press above bodyweight as a starting point when thinking about competing. For women, I like to recommend an above bodyweight squat, a 100kg deadlift and at least a half bodyweight bench press.
